How does the cancellation calculator work?
It tests all ten classical rules against your chart and reports each one individually. The calculator works in three steps: it calculates the chart (Mars, Moon, Venus, and Ascendant positions, per our methodology); checks Mars’s house position from all three reference points (Lagna, Chandra Lagna, Shukra Lagna); then runs the ten cancellation rules against the result, with the classical reasoning shown for each.
Why does the cancellation check matter more than detection alone?
Because detection tells you a dosha exists; cancellation tells you how much of it survives. The cancellation check matters more than detection because a large share of charts that trigger Mangal Dosha also carry one or more classical cancellation conditions — a “you are Manglik” result without a cancellation check tells only half the story and can be more alarming than it needs to be.
What does the result show?
Every rule tested, with its outcome and point contribution. What does ‘present but already counted’ mean in the results?
It marks a rule that genuinely matches your chart but has been absorbed by a stronger rule describing the same placement. It is not the same as a rule that failed. Showing it as absent would misrepresent your chart — see the sign-house exceptions for why the absorption happens.
Why do some rules show as ‘could not be evaluated’?
Rules 8 and 9 are assessed from the Ascendant only. If your dosha comes from the Moon or Venus reference alone, those two rules cannot be tested at all — which is a different situation from being tested and failing, and the report distinguishes them.
Does birth-time accuracy affect the cancellation result?
Yes — cancellation checking depends on the same accurate chart data as detection, and birth time matters most when Mars or the Ascendant sits close to a sign boundary. The “I don’t know my exact birth time” option flags anywhere the result could shift with a more precise time.
Which cancellation rules can and cannot apply to your chart?
Eight of the ten apply from any reference point. Two do not, and knowing which is which explains most “why did no rule apply” questions.
Rules 8 and 9 — the five named sign-house exceptions, and the Mercury-sign exception in the 2nd house — are stated in the classical verses counted from the Lagna specifically. This site applies them only from the Lagna. A chart that is Manglik purely from the Moon or Venus therefore cannot receive them, and the result says so explicitly rather than leaving an unexplained gap.
This is the conservative reading. Extending those two rules to all three reference points would lower more people’s scores, which is precisely why it needs a textual basis rather than a convenience argument.
