Mangal Dosha (Manglik Dosha) is the Vedic astrology condition formed when Mars occupies specific houses in a birth chart. This calculator checks your chart for Mangal Dosha from all three classical reference points, runs all ten classical cancellation rules against the result, and converts the outcome into a transparent 0–100 severity score — the three things most calculators don’t do together in one pass.

Mangal Dosha Calculator
Mangal Dosha (Kuja Dosha) arises when Mars occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of a birth chart. This calculator computes your actual planetary positions — sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses — and checks Mars from all three classical reference points: Lagna, Moon and Venus. You also get what most calculators hide: a full cancellation (Dosha Bhanga) check, because a large share of "Manglik" results are substantially neutralised by classical rules.
What does this calculator check?

This calculator checks three things in one result: Mangal Dosha status (Manglik, Anshik Manglik, or Non-Manglik), cancellation status against the ten cancellation rules, and a net severity score (the Mangal Impact Index™). Mars’s house position is checked from the Lagna, Chandra Lagna, and Shukra Lagna using whole-sign houses, matching the method described on our methodology.
What does the calculator not check?
Guna Milan, nakshatra matching, and any wider compatibility framework. It calculates Mangal Dosha and its cancellation, and nothing else. How the two systems relate covers why that scope is deliberate.
How is this different from other Mangal Dosha calculators?
Most calculators detect the dosha and stop. This one also checks whether classical cancellation conditions apply — own-sign or exalted Mars, Jupiter’s aspect, Yogakaraka status, and seven more — since a meaningful share of Manglik charts carry at least one. See the ten cancellation rules for the full list and their classical sources.
What information do you need to check Mangal Dosha?
Date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth are required. Time matters most — the Ascendant shifts one sign every 80 to 145 minutes, depending on your latitude and which sign is rising, so an inaccurate birth time can change your result, particularly near a sign boundary. See why birth time and place matter for the full explanation.
What does the free result include?
The free result includes your status, which house and reference point triggered it, your full cancellation breakdown, and your net Mangal Impact Index™ score from Negligible to Severe. A locked preview shows what the paid report adds: Mars nakshatra, dasha timing, and remedy priorities.
What is in the paid report that is not in the free result?
The free result gives your status, severity band and which rules fired. The paid report adds the full ten-rule audit with classical sources, the itemised score breakdown, the behavioural and remedial sections, and the birth-time tolerance analysis for your specific chart.
How accurate is this calculator?
The calculator uses an independently built ephemeris engine (not a third-party API), the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa used in India’s official Panchang, and whole-sign houses, the Vedic standard for dosha analysis. Our methodology and our accuracy study document exactly where this matters and where it doesn’t.
Is my birth data kept private?
Yes. Birth details are used only to calculate your own result and generate your own report, and are never sold. See About Mangal Dosha Pro for our full data commitment.
For matching two charts rather than checking one, the marriage calculator focuses on the 7th and 8th house triggers that matter most in a match, and the Manglik matching guide explains what matching actually checks before you run anything.
What if you do not know your birth time?
A partial answer is still available. Venus is fully reliable without a time and the Moon usually is, together carrying 50% of the score. The Ascendant — the other 50%, plus the two strongest house-gated cancellation rules — cannot be calculated without one.
Mangal Dosha without a birth time sets out exactly what survives, how to test an uncertain time across a range, and why a 12 noon default is worse than no answer at all.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Mangal Dosha calculator free? Yes. Status, cancellation breakdown, and the Mangal Impact Index score are free; a full paid report adds deeper analysis.
Does this calculator check cancellation, or just detect the dosha? Both, in the same result — all ten classical cancellation rules run automatically alongside detection.
What if I don’t know my exact birth time? Use the “I don’t know my exact birth time” option for an estimated-mode result, with any uncertain part of the result flagged directly.
What do I need to use the calculator? Date, time and place of birth. Without a time, a partial assessment is still possible — see Mangal Dosha without a birth time.
Is my birth data stored? Free calculations are not retained. The privacy policy states exactly what happens to what you enter.
Do I need to create an account? No. No email address is needed to see a result.
How accurate is the calculation? Planetary positions are accurate to a fraction of a degree across 1800-2049 — far more precision than sign placement requires.

Two more calculators sit alongside the one on this page: the cancellation calculator reports which of the ten rules fire on a single chart, and the compatibility calculator analyses two charts together.
Where to go next
If you have not run your chart yet, the free calculator gives the status, the severity band and the reasoning behind every point. From there, the ten cancellation rules covers everything that can reduce the figure, the six trigger houses explains why some placements weigh far more than others, and our methodology documents how the whole calculation is derived.
