Why does the house matter as much as the trigger itself?
The house matters because “am I Manglik” is shorthand for a more specific question — which house is Mars in, from which reference point — and two charts can both be “Manglik” while describing quite different classical themes depending on the house involved.
How are the six houses ranked by severity?
By classical emphasis, not equally — the 8th house weighs 90 and the 2nd weighs 40. Ranked from most to least severe in our scoring: 8th (highest, normalized to 100 in a triple-8th case) — longevity, transformation, shared resources; 7th (high) — direct partnership and marriage; 12th (moderate-high) — losses and private life; 1st (moderate) — self and temperament; 4th (moderate) — home and emotional base; 2nd (lowest, and the most debated) — speech and family.
Why not weight all six houses equally?
Because the classical material does not treat them as equivalent. The 7th is the house of marriage and the 8th governs the bond’s durability; the 2nd concerns speech. Weighting them identically would imply the tradition says something it does not, and would flatten the distinction that makes a severity score useful at all.
Why is the 2nd house treated differently from the other five?
The 2nd house is treated differently because, unlike the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, and 12th — consistently cited across nearly all classical sources — it’s a genuine point of disagreement between traditions: South Indian practice and several regional texts include it, other schools don’t. our methodology checks it while flagging it explicitly rather than quietly picking a side.

Only Cancer and Leo Ascendants qualify for the Yogakaraka rule. Five Ascendants — Aries, Cancer, Leo, Sagittarius and Capricorn — can additionally reach one of the five sign-house exceptions; the other seven cannot reach it from any Mars placement.
